Eileen Story – The Power of Prayer

About 10 years ago, I found myself in a life-changing situation. I had always worked in an office. I was, at that point, an office manager for a title insurance company. If you recall, around 2007-2008, the real estate market started to plummet. Sadly, the company I had worked for for many years ended up closing.

At the same time, I was dealing with the decline in my mom’s health. I had her (begrudgingly on her part) staying with me. I loved her to pieces, but we all know that 24/7 togetherness can get to anyone.

Knowing I needed much flexibility in my schedule and food always being a passion of mine, I ended up taking a part time job in a a local deli. It was hard work, but I really enjoyed it; both patrons and staff.

My mom lived for about 10 months. My plan was to get back into an office. What happened instead was they implored me to work full time at the deli…which I apprehensively did.

Well that turned into 7 days a week, 8 to 10 hours a day. This went on for eight years. At 57, I realize I could no longer do this work. It was both physically and financially draining.

So I decided it was time to get back into an office, rewrote my resume and began the painstaking task of job hunting. I sent out resumes, but also told everyone I knew of my search.

Little did I realize that 57 was not a very marketable age. I dealt with disappointments and many mixed feelings, but kept trudging along and praying. I really believed that if I continued doing this type of work for that many hours per week, I would no longer be able to walk by the time I hit 70.

Well after much persistence and prayer, I was offered and accepted a job in a wonderful company. Now not only am I off my feet, I have health benefits, paid time off and a 401k.

All I can say is the power of prayer and much effort can change your life…no matter what your age!
